Health & Environment Works

In addition to our civic work with rural leaders across the country, we are also pursuing strategic investment and donations for our Building the Rural Strong Network - focused on Health for the Heartland - through our health and environment-related advocacy work with community leaders, organizations and government agencies in rural areas, small towns and marginalized communities. Within these communities, we will engage in social efforts to help promote and advocate for healthy living and clean environment initiatives and eco-friendly government policies such as healthy foods, community health facilities, clean water, renewable energy, adequate pet care and other environmentally friendly government policies and initiatives.
As a part of our Health and Environment Works, and with generous donations to the Rural Strong Network, we have developed our volunteer programs "Lend A Hand," where we work with local leaders, community organizations, and local governments to identify and provide a helping hand to wounded veterans ("Volunteers for Wounded Vets") and immobile, low-income senior citizens ("Errands for the Elderly") who need temporary assistance completing daily chores; and "Forces of Nature," where we, in collaboration with local leaders, community organizations and local governments, bring volunteers together to help beautify public spaces, foster community pride, and promote good environmental stewardship. Our volunteer "Forces of Nature" program includes such community activities as litter collection and debris removal; beautification - planting flowers, trees and gardens and clearing overgrown vegetation; stream and waterway cleanups - removing trash from creeks and rivers to improve water quality; and household cleanups - organizing special pickups for bulky items residents can't easily dispose of on their own.
If you would like more information about these works, please contact us at healthenvironment@ruralstrong.us.
